A desert safari is one of the most romantic experiences Dubai has to offer. Here's how to make it perfect for two — from choosing the right package to the best photo spots and private vehicle upgrades.

Dubai Desert Safari for Couples — A Romantic Guide

A desert safari is one of the most romantic things you can do in Dubai. Sunset over the dunes, dinner under the stars, live music at a desert camp — it is a setting that most restaurants and rooftop bars simply cannot compete with. But not every safari package is equally suited for couples. Here is how to choose the right desert safari experience and make it genuinely special for two.

The best package for couples: evening safari with BBQ dinner

The evening desert safari with BBQ dinner is the most popular choice for couples, and for good reason. It packs romance, adventure, and culture into a single evening:

  1. Pickup from your hotel between 3:00 and 3:30 PM in an air-conditioned Land Cruiser.
  2. 30-40 minutes of dune bashing together — the shared adrenaline rush is a genuine bonding experience. Most couples are laughing or holding onto each other the entire time.
  3. Sunset photo stop at a high dune point. This is the highlight for couples. The golden hour light across the dunes produces the kind of photos that end up framed on your wall. Your driver stops specifically for this — take your time.
  4. Camel riding side by side through the sand — peaceful, slow, and photogenic.
  5. Arrival at the desert camp as the sky turns dark. Arabic coffee, dates, and the sound of traditional music create an atmosphere that feels a world away from the city.
  6. BBQ dinner under open sky with live belly dance, tanoura, and fire show performances. The camp lighting is soft and warm — genuinely romantic, not touristy.
  7. Drop-off at your hotel by 9:00-9:30 PM — plenty of time for a nightcap at your hotel bar.

The shared evening safari starts from AED 109 per person, making it one of the most affordable romantic date nights in Dubai. For two people, that is AED 218 total for a 6-hour experience including transport, adventure, dinner, and entertainment. Compare that to a restaurant dinner in Dubai Marina.

Upgrade to private: worth it for couples

The single best upgrade couples can make is booking a private desert safari. Here is why it transforms the experience:

  1. You are alone in the vehicle. No strangers. No one else's music, no one else's schedule, no awkward small talk with people you just met.
  2. Your driver becomes your personal photographer. Most drivers are happy to take photos for couples at every stop — they know the best angles and lighting. On shared tours, the driver manages 5-6 people and has less time for individual attention.
  3. Extended sunset stop. On shared tours, the sunset stop is timed. On private tours, your driver waits as long as you want. If you want 20 minutes sitting on top of a dune watching the sun go down, you get 20 minutes.
  4. The drive to and from the desert is quality time. In a private vehicle, it is just the two of you with soft music and the desert landscape unfolding outside. On shared tours, you are making conversation with strangers.

Private evening safaris start from AED 499 per group (for 2 people, that is AED 250 each — only AED 140 more per person than shared). For a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday, that upgrade is absolutely worth it.

Sunrise safari: the quiet romantic option

If you and your partner prefer peace over party, the sunrise desert safari is the more intimate choice. The early morning desert is almost silent. There are no other tourists, no camp crowds, no entertainment shows — just you, your partner, and the sunrise painting the dunes gold.

The sunrise safari is private by default (you get your own vehicle), so there is no need to pay for a private upgrade. It starts from AED 449 per group. The experience is shorter (3-4 hours vs 6 hours for the evening safari) and does not include dinner or entertainment, but what it lacks in extras it makes up for in atmosphere.

For photography-focused couples, sunrise is the better light. The low-angle morning sun creates warmer, softer images than the afternoon sun on the evening safari.

Best time of year for a couples safari

Read our full best time for a desert safari guide for detailed seasonal information. The short version for couples:

  1. November to February: perfect weather (20-25°C evenings). The desert camp experience is at its best — cool enough to sit outside comfortably after sunset. Peak season, so book 3-5 days in advance.
  2. March and October: shoulder season. Slightly warmer but still comfortable. Fewer tourists means a more intimate camp experience.
  3. April to September: hot. Evening safaris still work but the first hour is uncomfortable. Sunrise safaris are genuinely beautiful in summer mornings. Read our summer safari guide for details.
  4. Full moon nights: the desert under a full moon is spectacular. Check the lunar calendar and book accordingly if you want this experience.

What to wear: couples edition

Check our detailed what to wear on a desert safari guide. Specific tips for couples:

  1. Dress comfortably but thoughtfully. The desert is casual, but you will want photos together. Light, flowing fabrics in neutral or warm tones photograph beautifully against the sand.
  2. Avoid white shoes — the red Lahbab sand stains. Wear beige, tan, or dark-coloured footwear.
  3. Bring a light scarf or shawl. It works as a sun shield, a sand cover in wind, and a wrap when temperatures drop after sunset. It also looks great in photos.
  4. Skip the perfume and cologne — sand flies are attracted to fragrance in the desert.
  5. Coordinate colours loosely for photos. You do not need to match, but two people in complementary earth tones against golden sand creates stunning images.

Romantic add-ons

Beyond the standard safari, these activities add a romantic layer:

  1. Dhow dinner cruise on a different evening — candlelit dinner on a traditional wooden boat cruising through illuminated Dubai Marina. From AED 130 per person.
  2. Calypso sunset cruise — luxury yacht with swimming pool and drinks at sunset. A premium alternative to the desert for your second evening.
  3. Burj Khalifa Lounge level 152-154 — sky-high drinks with panoramic views. Perfect pre-dinner stop before the safari.

Anniversary, honeymoon, or proposal?

If you are celebrating a special occasion, let us know when you book. We can arrange:

  1. A private vehicle with decoration (flowers, banners) — contact us on WhatsApp to arrange.
  2. A specific dune location for a proposal moment — your driver knows the most secluded, photogenic spots.
  3. A quieter table at the desert camp away from the main group.
  4. A photographer to accompany your tour (additional cost) — professional photos of the entire experience.

Not all of these are standard — they depend on availability and advance notice. Message us at +971 55 534 6567 at least 3 days before your trip to discuss arrangements.

How to book

Browse all desert safari packages and prices. For couples, we recommend the evening safari with BBQ dinner (best value at AED 109 per person) or a private sunrise safari (most intimate at AED 449 per group). Book online for instant confirmation or WhatsApp +971 55 534 6567 for custom arrangements.
